Rick Owens, the avant-garde provocateur of fashion, debuts his first-ever solo retrospective in Paris. Temple of Love, running from June 28, 2025 to January 4, 2026 at the Palais Galliera, transforms the museum into an immersive narrative of his sartorial evolution.
Rick Owens served as the exhibition’s artistic director, shaping every detail in close collaboration with curators Miren Arzalluz and Alexandre Samson. The exhibition extends beyond traditional gallery walls, unfolding across the museum’s grand façade and sculpted garden.
Inside, more than 100 emblematic silhouettes from Owens’s early Los Angeles ventures to his latest Parisian creations are staged alongside personal documents, videos, and site-specific installations. Highlights include a reconstructed 1990s bedroom he shared with creative partner Michèle Lamy, underlining her vital influence on his aesthetic and career.
A curated selection of works by Gustave Moreau, Joseph Beuys, and Steven Parrino places Owens’s fashion in direct dialogue with his artistic inspirations. The museum façade is draped in sequined fabric, and the garden is animated by 30 brutalist cement sculptures echoing his furniture line, framed by Californian botanicals dear to the designer.
Owens’s vision emerges as both rebellion and reverence—a meditation on identity, materiality, and conceptual beauty. His career, often described as a 30-year campaign of “cheerful depravity,” is presented not as shock for its own sake but as a deeply considered alternative to mainstream aesthetics.
