French Riviera
The Côte d’Azur, often referred to as the French Riviera, is the Mediterranean coast of France in the Provence region, from the city of Toulon to Italy.
The name comes from the 1870 novel by the writer Stefan Liéjard — Cote d’Azur, by association with the amazing beauty of the bay of the town of Hyères.
The most popular area of the French Riviera is the southern part of the Alpes-Maritimes department. It includes famous cities — Nice, Cannes, Antibes. Nice is the departmental capital. The city is interesting for its cultural heritage and sights. Here is the legendary Promenade des Anglais, which runs along the sea and stretches for about five kilometers, the Negresco Hotel and the Chagall Museum. Cannes, the venue for the popular film festival, also boasts the beautiful Croisette, luxury hotels and restaurants along the coast. Ancient fortresses and monasteries fans can look at the Lerins Islands, located in the Cannes region. Here you will find fresh air, saturated with eucalyptus, as well as picturesque views. A small town in the mountains — St. Paul de Vence will win you over with its cute narrow streets with many art galleries. This is one of the oldest cities on the Cote d’Azur, a favorite place of the artist Marc Chagall. No less popular resorts are St. Tropez and Toulon, belonging to the Var department. In this area, guests can enjoy clean beaches, blue sea, cozy villages and towns, lavender fields and vineyards.
In addition to the territory of France, the region includes the Principality of Monaco. A tiny monarchy with an area of only 2 square meters. km — traditionally considered the center of luxury and comfort. Many hotels in Monaco are located in historical buildings that look like real palaces. Do not forget about the Monte Carlo Casino, a large number of boutiques and luxury restaurants, as well as entertainment for every taste. One of the stages of the Formula 1 race is taking place here.
The French Riviera has a mild climate — warm enough in winter and not too hot in summer. This is a very positive place with about 300 sunny days a year. Here you can go on a romantic trip, have fun with a noisy group of friends, or calmly relax with your family.
Speaking of local products, it is worth noting olives, figs, melons, fragrant herbs, juicy lamb and fish dishes, rose wine and Pastis are also popular.
